The importance of education in the field of recovery logistics and ecologistics

The theory of integrated supply chain management is subject to continuous improvement as part of its development. This is reflected in research on the issue of the Closed Loop Supply Chain. The closure of logistics processes in relation to traditional supply chain links is manifested in activities carried out within the framework of recovery logistics and ecologistics.

The validity of educational processes
The importance of these areas is constantly growing due to their close connection with environmental protection, and for this reason, it is an extremely complex topic. The high level of complication results, among other things, from the need to constantly monitor regulations in this area, which:
• are constantly being amended
• have numerous, difficult-to-access interpretations of existing regulations
• are very difficult to interpret, presumably due to the low quality of translations made directly from the texts of EU directives, without taking into account the realities of economic turnover typical for a given business environment
• there are many conflicting positions on the meaning of individual issues.

Waste management as the main subject of education
The fundamental problem that requires special consideration of the current legal status and is closely related to recovery logistics and ecologistics is proper waste management. At individual stages of the supply chain, entities struggle with the problems of managing various types of waste:
• their own waste generated by them, including hazardous waste such as batteries, fluorescent lamps, toners, etc.
• post-production waste
• post-consumer waste
• reusable waste
• waste generated from unsold products: end-of-series, returns, expired, damaged, or customer-returned products, etc.
• packaging waste resulting from the use of raw materials and semi-finished products in the production process, supplied by the previous link in the supply chain
• packaging waste resulting from the distribution process of third-party products
• and above all, ensuring the recovery and recycling of waste generated through the import or production of finished goods, in accordance with the polluter pays principle.
