In what direction is RFID heading? How is the business value of auto-id technology developing? Where does it stand in Germany, considered perhaps the most demanding market in Europe? All innovations and trends observed among our western neighbors eventually reach Poland. The Euro-ID-Messe trade fair in Cologne in May provided an opportunity to recognize what is happening in this industry.
Euro-ID-Messe is a specialized trade fair dedicated to automatic identification. This year’s event covered a very broad
spectrum of issues and applications related to automatic identification, including hardware (terminals, readers, RFID tags, labelers, etc.), as
well as software and services. It was also a forum for exchanging knowledge about the latest trends and technologies emerging in Auto ID solutions. This year, 80 exhibitors and sub-exhibitors appeared at Euro-ID-Messe, mainly from Germany, but also from the Netherlands, China, Italy, and the only exhibitor from Poland – the Krakow-based company Logisys. In addition to highly specialized smaller companies, the fair also hosted corporations: Philips, Siemens, IBM. The axis of the conference part’s presentations – just like at the exhibition stands
– was RFID and everything related to this technology. The German market is intensively looking for technologically reliable
solutions, as well as examining the economic profitability of implementations. Both company representatives and members of the scientific community and industry organizations gave speeches. Metro, Wal-Mart, Rewe, DHL, and Gery Weber are currently in the process of implementing large-scale projects with a high level of supply chain integration. However, the cooperation of these companies with their suppliers, logistics companies, and customers is still at the beginning of utilizing the potential that RFID technology offers in the supply chain.
