Deutsche Post World Net is the first major logistics service provider to join the joint initiative of European Union member states regarding road safety. Monika Wulf-Mathies, Managing Director of the Corporate Public Policy & Sustainability Department at Deutsche Post World Net, signed the European Road Safety Charter in the presence of the European Commissioner for Transport, Jacques Barrot.
The road safety action plan was created by the European Commission in 2004, and its goal is to halve the number of road accident fatalities in EU countries by 2010. – By joining the signatories of the European Road Safety Charter, we want – as a global leader in transport logistics – to contribute to increasing road safety. – said Monika Wulf-Mathies.
Part of the DPWN initiative is the creation of the DPWN Road Safety Code of Conduct, applicable to all road users operating within the Group. The set of regulations contains strictly defined rules aimed at improving road traffic safety. The collection of rules also defines the principles of responsible participation in road traffic, while providing for the possibility of Group employees participating in appropriate training in this area.
Our logistics network is modern technology, although it should not be forgotten that its foundation is people. – said Walter Scheurle, Board Member for Personnel at Deutsche Post World Net. We operate according to current safety standards, but we want to constantly improve them. As a logistics company, we care about introducing new solutions in the field of safety, which is why we decided to participate in the road safety initiative. – added Walter Scheurle. As part of these activities, the Group will provide employees with key information regarding road safety, as well as train at least 50,000 employees annually in this area.
To coordinate the road safety program operating within the Group, Deutsche Post World Net is currently implementing a virtual Road Safety House. – With the development of the DPWN Road Safety House, a global foundation will be established, bringing together a number of local and national initiatives focused on road safety issues. – said Monika Wulf-Mathies.
Operating within this global initiative, the Group will create an online platform for the exchange of experiences, information, and materials. As part of these activities, the Group will work closely with other signatories of the European Road Safety Charter, including the German Road Safety Council and ADAC.
