In a great many warehouses, logistics centers, or large commercial facilities, industrial trucks are used, both pallet trucks and stackers, powered by an electric motor supplied by battery packs. The battery packs used in these trucks have varying capacities, which have a significant impact on the actual continuous operating time. It cannot be denied that during operation their efficiency decreases until the truck eventually becomes immobilized. This is, of course, an extreme case that cannot be ruled out in practice, but it should not happen. To avoid such a situation, every battery must be charged at the right moment. Depending on the intensity of the truck’s operation, the battery can be:
– charged together with the truck while it is parked at a designated station
– replaced with a charged battery.
The first situation is one of the most common in practice. It occurs wherever we are dealing with low-intensity truck operation. This is possible in warehouses where taking a truck out of service for charging does not cause disruptions in its operation. This situation, apart from designating a parking space equipped with an appropriate device (charger) for charging, does not require any special equipment.
