Supply Chain Management – International Logistics Competencies: New Competency Standards of the European Logistics Association

Confirmation of professional qualifications applies to many professional specialties, and often, after working for several years following graduation from school (university), we ask ourselves: what kind of specialist am I in my industry, how did the university prepare me for the profession, and am I reinforcing and developing the correctly learned specialty on a daily basis? Therefore, this is a natural, internal need for benchmarking personal professional activity. However, the question remains: what constitutes the benchmark for our self-assessment?
The European Logistics Certification System, operating in Poland since 2000, was developed in terms of competencies based on the competency standards of the European Logistics Association (ELA –
European Logistics Association),
and organizationally based on the guidelines of the European Certification Board for Logistics
(European Certification Board for Logistics –
ECBL), which coordinates and supervises the professional certification of logisticians in many countries in Europe and around the world.
A logistics certificate according to the new European competency standards can be obtained at the Operational, Senior, and Strategic Levels of Logistics, corresponding to the professional titles: EJLog
(European Junior Logistician),
ESLog
(European Senior Logistician)
and EMLog
(European Master Logistician).
Due to the noticeable effects of increased product competitiveness on the market, shorter cash conversion cycles in economic turnover, the effects of increased sales volume, and cost reduction attributed by European companies to the efficiency of supply chain operations, the focus of European competency standards in logistics has naturally begun to shift towards managing entire supply chains. European logistics leaders with many years of experience, as well as the results of best management practices
best practices,
point to the benefits of increased unit product profit, faster response to market needs, and improvement of efficiency indicators (KPI –
Key Performance Indicators),
achieved by European companies as a result of the integration and synchronization of logistics activities in the supply chain – from procurement to distribution. The module verifying knowledge of basic supply chain concepts
(Basic Supply Chain Concepts)
is mandatory at all competency levels and is common to the Operational, Senior, and Strategic Levels of Logistics.
