ProLogis builds a logistics center in northern Poland

ProLogis, a leading global provider of distribution facilities and services, will invest 36-42 million euros in the construction of a modern logistics center in Gdańsk. ProLogis Park Gdańsk will be the first modern distribution center in northern Poland. Ultimately, the facility will consist of five buildings with a total area of over 88,000 sq m. The first stage of the investment, covering two warehouse buildings with an area of 35,800 sq m, will be completed in the first quarter of 2007.

The construction of ProLogis Park Gdańsk was inaugurated on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, with a ceremonial laying of the cornerstone. In the presence of city authorities and invited guests, the foundation act of the new logistics park was signed by: Michael de Jong-Douglas, President of the Board of ProLogis, Maciej Madejak, Vice President of the Board of ProLogis, and Paweł Adamowicz, Mayor of the City of Gdańsk.

The total cost of purchasing the land for the new ProLogis logistics park amounted to 5.6 million euros. ProLogis Park Gdańsk is located at a strategic point in the Tri-City, in the industrial district of Gdańsk-Kokoszki. This location provides excellent transport conditions. The new ProLogis logistics complex is being built near the Lech Wałęsa Airport, which handles domestic and international connections, and the Seaport in Gdańsk. The proximity of the Tri-City and the closeness of the Gdańsk bypass – the S6/E28 road and the planned A1 North-South motorway, makes the investment an excellent transshipment point for logistics companies. This region has a very well-developed transport infrastructure and a rapidly developing business sector and a market of qualified personnel.

– The logistics industry in Central and Eastern Europe is developing very dynamically, and consequently, the demand for modern warehouse space is increasing. By building our logistics parks within major Polish cities, we are meeting the expectations of our Clients. Thus, our logistics parks contribute to attracting foreign capital to Poland – said Michael de Jong-Douglas, President of the Board of ProLogis.

The latest ProLogis distribution center will consist of five modern warehouse buildings with a total area of 88,000 sq m. The first two facilities, with a total area of 35,800 sq m, will be put into use in the first quarter of 2007. The completion of the remaining buildings is planned in subsequent phases of the investment.

– Our many years of experience indicate that the opening of each new ProLogis park stimulates employment growth in the region. – added Michael de Jong-Douglas.

ProLogis Park Gdańsk will be one of the company’s most modern investments in Poland. The park will be adapted to the various needs of Clients: logistics and distribution, storage, light production, and cold storage as part of food logistics. Each of the complex’s buildings is equipped with 22 loading docks and 4 ground-level entry gates. The floors will have a load-bearing capacity of at least 5,000 kg/sq m. ProLogis Park Gdańsk will also feature a wide maneuvering area and convenient parking spaces for trucks and passenger cars, and the entire investment area will be fenced and covered by 24-hour security. The park is located 500 meters from a local public transport stop (3 bus lines).
