32 Schenker Group logistics terminals meet the security criteria for the transport of high-value goods. Three Polish Schenker branches—Warsaw, Katowice, and Poznań—hold the TAPA “A” category certificate.
– Work on certification at Schenker began back in 2003. It mainly involved expanding the security system and upgrading facility infrastructure—additional cameras, alarms, expanding the access control system, and implementing new security procedures. It is worth noting that in the case of awarding the TAPA certificate, unlike quality certificates, each terminal is treated as a separate entity. The preparations themselves are very complex and involve the logistics operator assuming responsibility for the transport of high-value products. – explains Tadeusz Leszczyński, Head of Production Security and Ecology at Schenker Sp. z o.o.
In Poland, TAPA certificates are held by branches in Pyskowice near Katowice, Młochów near Warsaw, and Tarnowo Podgórne near Poznań. The latter two have just received, following a very thorough periodic audit in July 2006 conducted by the German auditing firm BVQI, an extension of their certificate validity until 2008 and the highest “A” category certification rating. This guarantees TAPA clients that their goods will be handled with the highest achievable security standards. Recertification of the terminal in Pyskowice near Katowice is planned for 2007.
– To meet the TAPA FSR 2005 Freight Security Requirements, the Polish branches had to expand security systems in the areas of CCTV, intrusion and robbery alarm systems, and access monitoring. As part of joining TAPA, the branches in Warsaw, Poznań, and Katowice designated a special warehouse area equipped with an enhanced security system. An important element in the preparatory process was the introduction of detailed procedures for handling shipments for TAPA-affiliated clients. – adds Tadeusz Leszczyński.
