Transport does not benefit from subsidies

The Ministry of Regional Development has published a report on structural funds and their utilization in our country. According to the report, transport has benefited the least from the funding.

The value of co-financing agreements from the European Union has increased. While at the end of 2005 their value reached 19.6 billion PLN, by the end of June they reached a total of 24.9 billion PLN. Since the launch of structural and cohesion funds for Poland, the value of applications has already exceeded 64 billion. However, the most important thing is the utilization of the granted money. This does not look very good, as only 16.28 percent of the funds have been used in total. Funds for human capital development and the implementation of programs under the IROP (Integrated Regional Operational Programme) have been managed best and fastest.

According to information from Gazeta Prawna, in the so-called Sectoral Operational Programme Transport, 31 million PLN was spent by the end of the first half of the year, which is 0.68 percent of the funds. If the situation does not improve, the risk of Poland losing EU subsidies for transport will become real. Poland can spend the funds for the years 2004-2006 until the end of 2008.
