Designing and implementing corporate portals – a new service from ZETO SA

ZETO SA in Poznań has introduced a new service covering the design and implementation of corporate portals based on the IBM WebSphere platform. The solution is intended for companies that can gain a competitive advantage through the effective use of the information they possess. An interdisciplinary team of specialists has been established to carry out the service, working under the direct supervision of the chief technologist, Dr. Janusz Dorożyński.
Corporate portals increase productivity by integrating applications and also streamline communication with partners and within the organization. Furthermore, they aim to create a knowledge management platform within the organization, which is necessary when a company’s success depends on the effective use of the information it possesses. Knowledge management is also crucial in the case of activities based on the creative work of employees carried out by geographically dispersed teams.

– We live in times when we spend 30 to 60 minutes a day looking for the information we need or the person who possesses it, 80 percent of questions are repeated, and 65 percent of our time is spent duplicating work, which is why data in our companies doubles every 6-8 months – cites research results Marek Hawrusik, project manager at ZETO SA in Poznań. – These are just some of the facts testifying to the need for specialized solutions serving the effective use of possessed data and efficient communication.

ZETO SA in Poznań offers a solution that it uses and develops on a daily basis, relying on its own team of programmers. The e-ZETO portal makes it easier for employees to access information stored on intranet servers and in documentation resources. An important element constituting the value added by ZETO SA in Poznań is the mapping of the file structure located on the server through data synchronization and integration with the application managing the quality system. An additional solution is guides, i.e., portlets presenting information according to various criteria, such as tasks performed by individual teams. The guides are enriched with a document search engine and intuitive navigation in the form of a drop-down tree, which significantly facilitates the quick finding of the sought-after information. In order to encourage the use of the portal, as well as to show the possibilities of exchanging knowledge and experience, the World Cup 2006 portlet was created. Using it, portal users can predict results, check match scores, for the accuracy of which they receive points, and also compete with others.

The portal solution prepared by ZETO SA in Poznań will be intended for enterprises using many applications, possessing diverse databases, distributed organizations, and all those for whom quick access to accumulated information is important.
