In March of this year, the Polish branch of TNT Express undertook the transport of a life raft to Mexico. The service was ordered by a Polish client – the automatically gas-inflating raft will serve as equipment for a yacht that will soon set sail for Gdynia.
The uniqueness of the service lay in the fact that the raft, along with its equipment, was classified as dangerous goods for transport under international regulations. The package included: signal flares, gas cartridges, lithium batteries, and a repair kit (containing, among other things, oxidizers and corrosive substances). Weighing 56 kg, the shipment traveled in specially prepared packaging compliant with IATA (International Air Transport Association) regulations.
– TNT Express arranged a suitable connection, taking into account the need for the fastest possible transport and the limitation of potential transshipments at airports. As a result, the shipment arrived in the capital of Mexico in pristine condition after a 96-hour journey – says Paweł Tkaczyk from the Special Services department at TNT Express Poland. – Additionally, the Polish branch of TNT Express handled all formalities related to the shipment on behalf of the client.
According to international regulations, a life raft must be on board any vessel more than 20 miles from shore. Since local sailing shops did not have a raft with the specifications required by the client in stock, and time was running out, it was decided to use the services of a courier company. The raft delivered from Poland, along with the additional equipment, serves as part of the gear for the 16-meter racing yacht s/y “Fujimo”.
