Such a strong partner, which one can easily join, are the so-called e-commerce arcades, virtual equivalents of shopping malls that we have been accustomed to for many years by the largest chains of traditional hypermarkets.
– We currently cooperate with over 300 stores, and many of them, after initial tests, are eager to sign multi-month contracts, although we do not require it at all. Thanks to the mediation of the Onet arcade, one can purchase even less popular products. Today, our customers can choose from offers in 22 main categories and several hundred subcategories – explains Piotr Tchórzewski, press spokesperson for Onet.pl. – In total, we currently have over 1.7 million offers from the best online stores in Poland.
No one wants to speak officially about revenues from e-arcades.
– So far, I cannot provide such data. I can only say that these turnovers are increasing year by year. The fact that the market is developing can be evidenced by the constantly growing number of companies providing this type of service – says Benita Jakubowska, Sales Director at the Internet Division of Agora SA. – Users of the Gazeta.pl portal most often buy books, airline tickets, and train tickets. However, before an internet user buys anything, they first compare the price in several online stores.
Electronic stores, whether operating on their own or connected to electronic arcades, are not the only form that allows for conducting trade on the web. Electronic auctions are also very popular. The passing year is the first in which the growth dynamics of the Polish e-commerce market were so large that foreign companies became interested in us. For several months, the eBay auction platform, a global precursor of electronic commerce, has been operating in our network. Despite initial disappointment related to the form of service, the site is slowly taking customers away from existing Polish auction platforms – Allegro.pl and Świstak.pl. A good opinion about the Polish market may cause other foreign investors to appear in the near future, who are already announcing expansion to the east (e.g., Google with its Froogle shopping search engine).
– Currently, the most interesting element of e-commerce in Poland are internet auctions, on which the interest of internet users is concentrated and which generate the largest turnover – says Dariusz Zaremba. – In my opinion, the auction market is awaiting further development, if only because the global player eBay has entered Poland. However, I expect that this company will slowly increase its market share and adapt its offer to their needs.
At the same time, Allegro, as the clear leader in the online auction market, focuses on increasing the awareness of potential network users. It is difficult to prejudge the outcome of the competitive battle between Allegro and eBay at this moment, which is gaining strength: Allegro has many years of experience in the Polish internet auction market and the support of the largest Polish portals and services, while eBay has the backing of an international corporation and a well-known global brand.
– We look at the competition with respect and kindness – says Bartek Szambelan, press spokesperson for Allegro. – The entry of this big player proves that the Polish e-commerce market is characterized by great potential.
