GEFCO Polska will be transporting Peugeot cars to Lithuania. The first shipment set off on September 27. Also in September, GEFCO Polska launched a regular groupage line to Vilnius.
– The opening of borders as a result of Poland’s accession to the European Union has enabled GEFCO to create new, extremely customer-friendly logistics solutions – says Anna Galewska, Automotive Operations Director at GEFCO Polska – GEFCO can provide this type of service for all industrial clients.
The logistics center where cars for Lithuania are reloaded has been moved from France to Legionowo near Warsaw. Previously, cars were transported to the Baltic states from two centers in France – Marckolsheim and Blyes. Since the end of September, GEFCO has launched connections between Legionowo and Vilnius. The change in the logistics scheme allowed for a cost reduction of as much as 15 percent. Car transport can take place daily. The transport time to Lithuania does not exceed one day. By expanding its logistics network in the Baltic states, GEFCO has taken full responsibility for the transport of the car – from the moment it is picked up from the factory to its delivery directly to the recipient. This is the second market in Central and Eastern Europe for which the GEFCO logistics center in Legionowo provides this type of service. Since September 2004, GEFCO has been consolidating Peugeot cars for the Russian market.
Almost simultaneously, GEFCO opened a groupage line from Grodzisk Mazowiecki to Vilnius. Shipments reach the Lithuanian capital within 18 hours. From there, a GEFCO partner, a Lithuanian freight forwarding company, distributes the shipments across Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The most frequently transported loads are industrial products.
