DHL has received the European Investment Award for the construction of a global IT Services Center in Prague. The award was presented during the La Baule World Investment conference, organized in France under the patronage of the European Commission, and is one of three awards given for the best foreign investments in Europe.
The 500 million euro state-of-the-art IT Technology Center is the largest investment in the service sector in the Czech Republic. – We are proud that our investment has been recognized – said Peter Kruse, CEO of DHL Express for the Europe region, upon receiving the award. – This top-class facility strengthens our global IT infrastructure and, together with centers in Scottsdale, USA, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ensures continuous and reliable logistics operations around the clock. The construction and launch of the Prague center confirm both the highest quality of services offered by DHL and the company’s role in providing stable jobs in the local market.
The facility in Prague was commissioned in June 2004. By March 2005, it had employed over 900 high-class IT specialists, the vast majority of whom are from the Czech Republic. At the same time, over 600 servers were installed and configured to enable the migration of business transaction processing from IT centers in the UK and Switzerland. The IT Services Center is the largest investment by DHL and Deutsche Post World Net in the Czech Republic in 17 years, since both companies began operations in the country.
