DHL is expanding its logistics center in Staufenberg, Germany. The company will invest approximately 44 million euros in the expansion of the center, which will cover an area of 50,000 square meters, thereby creating about 300 new jobs. Expanding the scope of the logistics center’s operations is a direct response to customer requirements for integrated logistics services. The launch of the center is scheduled for the beginning of October this year.
Currently, in Staufenberg, DHL operates a parcel center, an express shipment terminal, and a shipment repackaging center. The new multifunctional center will be an integral part of the existing infrastructure, which covers 90,000 square meters. Services covering the full logistics chain – from traditional warehousing to order acceptance, shipment distribution, and invoicing – will be offered to merchants placing orders online. Once it reaches its target operational capacity, the new center will be able to handle approximately 5 million more shipments per year than it does currently.
– Staufenberg is the third most modern DHL logistics platform built in the last six months – said Dr. Peter E. Kruse, a member of the board at Deutsche Post World Net, responsible for the Express division in Germany and Europe. – Thanks to the expansion of the center, our customers will benefit from a comprehensive range of integrated solutions and improved service quality, similar to what happened with the expansion of the centers in Greven and Bremen.
The new multifunctional center will expand the range of services offered to customers due to its proximity to the parcel center and express shipment terminal, as well as its direct connection to the transport network. The center’s favorable location in central Germany, and consequently in the center of Europe, will allow for a significant reduction in order fulfillment times. For example, shipments that DHL receives after midnight will reach their destination in Germany the very next day.
