DHL Express has begun further investments in the development of logistics infrastructure in Poland. By the end of this year, the company has planned to launch 4 more new terminals, in addition to the terminal in Zielona Góra which has already been put into operation. DHL will invest approximately 7 million EUR in just two new terminals in Wrocław and Gdańsk.
The investments in logistics infrastructure started this year are a prelude to building an integrated network of terminals that will allow for efficient handling of the increasing volume of shipments. – Thanks to the construction of new terminals, we are able to meet the constantly growing requirements of our customers regarding service quality, with a particular emphasis on the timeliness of service delivery – said Aleksander Morozowski, President of DHL Express. – The scope of investments we are implementing in Gdańsk and Wrocław is the first stage on the path to integrating and optimizing our road network.
First, locations with the best growth forecasts were selected for the construction of new terminals. Wrocław, the capital of Lower Silesia, where important communication routes running from east to west and from north to south intersect, and Gdańsk – the largest economic center of the Polish coast. These two new facilities are designed for the needs and in accordance with the expectations of DHL Express in terms of handling express shipments and general cargo, and are intended for delivery in both domestic and international transport. The remaining new terminals were selected based on specific parameters including: equipment, shipment volumes, access, size of the maneuvering area, communication infrastructure, etc.
New sorting standards using a sorting belt will be applied in the terminals in Gdańsk and Wrocław. Thanks to this solution, the efficiency of the terminals will increase, and the time window for the collection and delivery of shipments by couriers will be extended as much as possible. Additionally, international shipments will be handled in these two terminals, which determines their key role in the expansion of the already existing DHL Express road network.
