ELZAB price checkers

Why label?
Even in a small retail outlet, the obligation to mark every product with a price is a never-ending task that consumes time and materials. Hundreds of stickers, meters of tape, thousands of price gun strikes, and in the case of price changes, the necessity to repeat these operations so that the new label covers the previous price. Meanwhile, almost every package now has a barcode on it. A self-service store customer can verify the price displayed on the shelf using a price checker device.

Peace of mind for a moderate price
The cost of purchasing ELZAB price checkers pays for itself after just a few months of use. When evaluating the profitability of purchasing checkers, all aspects should be taken into account. How quickly this investment will pay off depends not only on the size of the store, the number of goods and their turnover, the cost of price guns and consumables, and the price of the chosen checker variant. When making calculations, one must not forget about the saved human labor and the peace of mind resulting from compliance with regulatory requirements.

Functional advantages of ELZAB checkers
The shape of the housing allows for easy application and reading of the code from both small and large goods. The materials from which the housing is made guarantee durability, reducing the risk of intentional damage. There are no keys or buttons that could be torn off or broken.
Display with large 9 mm characters (2 x 20 characters, Polish fonts) is very legible.
Power supply with 24V voltage ensures operational safety, and the lack of additional power cables and a separate power supply at the checker affects both aesthetics and ease of installation.

Multidirectional price checker

Two ways of communication – two types of ELZAB checkers

Depending on the method of communication with the computer and the location of the product database, ELZAB SA offers two basic models of price checkers:
1. LAN price checker, product database in the management computer.

The checker is connected to the LAN network, and the product database and operating software are installed on the management computer. Centrally storing the product database guarantees data consistency across all installed devices. The solution ensures a quick response to the read barcode, even for a large number of devices.
The checker also allows displaying promotional texts and performs additional functions depending on the program on the management computer.
2. Price checker for cash register systems, product database in the checker’s memory
RS232 transmission is used for communication with the computer.
共产 The checker has its own product database memory:
– RW and RL models 28.6 thousand PLU and 4,670 additional codes,
– RW+ and RL+ models 61.4 thousand PLU and 4,670 additional codes.

Users of RW and RL versions can, if necessary, purchase an additional memory module, upgrading them to the RW+ and RL+ versions.

Checkers of this type are recommended for use in any cash register systems where, due to the number of installed checkers, the product database should be located in the checker’s memory.
RW and RL type checkers are particularly recommended for facilities where ELZAB cash registers (Alfa, Delta, Jota) operate in a computer-controlled network. In terms of the data protocol, the checker is compatible with the ELZAB cash register protocol (and the previously produced price checker with product code 0950) and can be connected as another “cash register”.

Equipment, power supply, connections.
Checkers are equipped with one of two types of barcode readers:
– multidirectional laser reader, ensuring easy reading from a greater distance and at any product setting angle
– linear laser reader, a less convenient solution for the customer, requiring proper product positioning, but cheaper.

Essential equipment for the checkers are Power modules – one for every four installed checkers and a 24V DC Power supply (for each power module). Additionally, the offer includes an RS232 Power Module with a power supply (code 01621) – for powering a single RW, RL, RW+, RL+ checker. This allows reducing costs for single checker installations.

Checker with single-line reader

Connection to the network is made with a UTP cable for computer network connections (data transmission and power with a single cable) up to 100 m in a LAN network and up to 200 m for RS232 communication (e.g., in the ELZAB cash register system).
The fastening element is the rear wall, on which the checker is hung and locked with a keyed lock. When ordering checkers, you should specify whether the locks should have the same, single common key number for the delivery (then one key opens every checker) or different (random numbers).

Help for programmers!
ELZAB provides support to software companies interested in cooperating with our devices. Programs and protocols are available to programmers on the ELZAB SA ftp server:

1. Price checker in a LAN network
For communication with checkers we offer:
– SPR_LAN.DLL library (at ftp://ftp.elzab.com.pl/pub/kody/spr_lan.zip), which is a 32-bit dynamic library for all 32-bit WindowsT
– description of the communication protocol (at ftp://ftp.elzab.com.pl/pub/kody/prot_lan.zip)

The spr_ip.exe program is used to configure checkers in the LAN network. (at ftp://ftp.elzab.com.pl/pub/serwis/spr_ip.zip)
2. Checker in the ELZAB fiscal cash register system
Communication programs and how to use them (file interface description) can be found on the FTP server in the Kody folder (at http://elzab.com.pl/ftp/kody.html).

Key legal regulations regarding the use of checkers

  • at least 1 reader for every commenced 400 sq m of sales area (excluding readers installed in registering cash registers)
  • sales area – the area at the retail sales location, adapted to buyer self-service, to which they have direct access
  • the reader system reads the selling price of each product (without restrictions resulting from its price) along with its name or a comprehensible abbreviation of the name
  • deadline for implementation – by March 31, 2003

Details of the Regulations in Journal of Laws No. 99, item 894 of July 4, 2002 and Journal of Laws No. 174, item 1428 of October 18, 2002.
