QGUAR – Large-scale distribution at POLOmarket

Quantum software SA has completed another stage of IT work aimed at improving distribution logistics at POLOmarket.
POLOmarket is a distribution center and a very dynamic network of Polish supermarkets bearing the same name. Consistently pursuing its development, the company invests heavily in tools supporting logistics. Last year, a decision was made to purchase and implement a distribution logistics IT system from the Cracow-based company Quantum software. The QGUAR system – as it is called – is thus gradually taking control over individual links in the entire distribution chain.

The entire work was divided into appropriate stages so that the implementation of such a large system would not disrupt the company’s ongoing operational work.
In mid-December 2001, work on the first stage of implementation was completed.
The QGUAR system then took control of the entire distribution, starting from supply management, through the work of the high-bay warehouse, to sales and target distribution.

Another stage, completed in June 2002, aimed to further improve warehousing logistics by using a wireless radio communication system to exchange information within POLOmarket’s central warehouse. Currently, the warehouse operates several state-of-the-art radio terminals mounted on forklifts and a dozen portable ones used by individual warehouse operators.

Investing in such a modern solution has eliminated many operator errors resulting, for example, from fatigue, accelerated many repetitive operations, eliminated unnecessary printouts for operators, streamlined all goods traffic in the warehouse, and finally provided certainty regarding the correctness of issues at the lowest possible level.

August 2002 marks the date of the next stage, in which POLOmarket completes a new investment. POLOmarket is starting the distribution of fresh goods from the newly built warehouse facility. At the same time, the QGUAR-Internet module was implemented, which streamlines information exchange between stores and the headquarters and allows stores to intervene in the range of goods they are interested in.

Appropriate logistics policy and investing in QGUAR-type solutions currently allow POLOmarket to flexibly and quickly manage the flow of a huge amount of goods through its own distribution center.
Today, the company already manages a network of about 100 of its own supermarkets.
