Report on the Condition of Road Transport Across Seven Key European Markets

- Kategoria: English zone
The second edition of the report “Transforming Transportation in 2026” presents the current landscape of the European Commercial Road Transport (CRT) sector across seven key countries. It analyzes the trends shaping the industry’s future in Poland, Spain, Romania, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Hungary, and Slovakia. The publication also highlights companies setting the direction of change in three categories: Market Leader, Tech Trailblazer and Sustainability Star.
Eurowag, a leading technology company operating in the road transport (CRT) sector, has published the second edition of its Market Report, dedicated to assessing the condition and development trajectories of the industry across major European markets. The “Transforming Transportation in 2026” report shows how the sector is responding to growing challenges related to sustainability, operational efficiency, and digitalization.
Digitalization Becomes a Standard in the T&L Sector
This year’s edition shows that technologies such as artificial intelligence, integrated fleet-management systems, and automated administrative workflows are no longer competitive differentiators—they have become the foundation of day-to-day operations for transport companies. Carriers investing in AI, route optimization or digital reporting can now make faster decisions and reduce operational costs.
We are observing a clear shift from testing to practical implementation of technology. Transport companies need solutions that work - streamlining administration, connecting data, and enabling rapid response to market changes. This is why Eurowag focuses on integrating all its services into one cohesive ecosystem
- says Radosław Tatarski, VP Commercial Strategy & Operations and Acting Country Manager for Poland at Eurowag.
How to Stay Competitive in the Age of Decarbonization?
The report confirms growing interest in diversified energy sources, including alternative fuels such as HVO, bioLNG and electricity. HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) is becoming the first-choice solution for companies seeking to reduce emissions quickly without major fleet investments. Vehicles powered by bioLNG are now considered a mature technology, with refueling infrastructure widely available. Electric trucks are also gaining momentum, particularly in regional transport where shippers increasingly expect sustainable operations.
ESG reporting requirements and demonstrable reductions in carbon footprint are no longer “nice-to-have” - they are becoming mandatory. Companies across markets confirm that auditable emissions data are increasingly a prerequisite for participating in tenders. Carriers lacking a decarbonized fleet and credible environmental data are gradually losing access to the most valuable contracts.
Reducing Empty Runs as a Key Efficiency Metric
One of the report’s central themes is the systemic reduction of empty mileage. Transport companies now monitor not only fuel consumption or emission levels but also what portion of kilometers driven actually generates revenue. The goal of reducing empty runs and keeping the ratio below 20% is becoming an industry standard - similar to fuel-consumption monitoring. Combining telematics with artificial intelligence enables significant improvements to this indicator without additional capital expenditure. It is one of the fastest ways to reduce both costs and emissions at the same time.
Telematics Supporting Driver Development
Telematics data have evolved - from simple vehicle tracking tools to comprehensive driver-development systems. With Eurowag’s Driver’s Coaching solution, companies can analyze up to ten driving-style parameters - from cruise-control usage and braking patterns to tire pressure. Monthly performance results support targeted training programs. If a driver struggles with a particular aspect, they receive personalized support in that exact area. This combination of technological precision and individual coaching translates into measurable fuel savings and reduced vehicle wear.
Three Categories, One Common Denominator
Across all seven markets, the report highlights carriers that are setting the pace of transformation in three categories: Market Leader, Tech Trailblazer and Sustainability Star.
This report was created to show that European road transport is not just data and indicators, but above all a business driven by people facing similar challenges every day. We are grateful to the entrepreneurs who shared their experiences with us - their stories can inspire others and demonstrate that the path toward greener and more efficient operations is within reach
- says Radosław Tatarski, Eurowag.
In the Polish edition, Eurowag presents three customers demonstrating how innovation, responsibility and flexibility drive the growth of the national transport sector.
RP Trans, named Tech Trailblazer, uses technology and data to increase transport efficiency. The company invests in a modern fleet and state-of-the-art management systems, testing solutions that support its growth and prepare it for future ESG requirements.
LOGIUS, recognized as the Sustainability Star, shows how ESG can become an integral part of daily operations. A proactive approach to decarbonization and readiness for upcoming ESG reporting standards make LOGIUS one of the leaders of the green transformation of transport in Poland.
Elmex Group, the Market Leader awardee, operates a fleet of nearly 550 vehicles - many powered by bio-LNG or HVO100 - combining economic efficiency with environmental responsibility. Constant investments in alternative fuels, photovoltaic installations and AI-supported fleet-management systems confirm Elmex’s position as one of the most forward-thinking transport operators in Poland.
